Getting Started - Installing Tradepoint

Thank you for choosing Tradepoint! This article will walk you through the process of installing Tradepoint on your computer.

When you placed your order for Tradepoint you should have received a link to download the installation program or an installation CD and your Tradepoint Registration Key.

Installing Tradepoint

1. Run the TradepointSetup.exe file (from the CD you received or the files you downloaded) to start the installation program.
2. After the Welcome screen you will be asked to select the installation destination. The default path is recommended, but you are free to install the program in another location if you wish.
3. The third screen of the installation program will ask you to Select an Installation Type. Most new users will want to choose Stand Alone mode, but please read the descriptions below to select the type that is correct for your situation.
   1. Network User
      If you are connected to a network and have configured the Tradepoint database on your server select this option. This will install the program on your computer and allow you to connect to the database on your server.
      
   2. Remote User
      If you have configured the Tradepoint database on your server, but are not always connected to the network select this option. This will install the program and a database on your computer and allow you to synchronize with the database on the server when you have an active connection (through a local area network or over the internet).
      
   3. Stand Alone
      If your computer is not part of a network of other Tradepoint users select this option. This will install the program and database on your computer.
4. Click the Next button and the installation program will proceed with the install.

Starting Tradepoint for the first time

The steps required to start Tradepoint for the first time will vary depending on the Installation Type that you selected.

Network User
The first time you run Tradepoint you will be asked to Locate the Database. In the Server field enter the name of the server where the Tradepoint database has been installed. In the Database field enter the name of the Tradepoint database (usually just "Tradepoint").

Remote User
When you start Tradepoint you will be taken to the Remote User Setup Wizard. This wizard will walk you through the process of restoring a copy of the database, it will check for the latest update and synchronize with your master server. You must have an active internet connection during this process.

Stand Alone User
When you start Tradepoint as a new Stand Alone User you will be taken to the New Office Setup Wizard. The wizard will ask for your Tradepoint Registration Key and walk you through the process of registering your company. You must have an active internet connection during this process.
