15.1 Building Role Based Security Profiles - Part 1
Feb/7/2008
Building role based
security profiles in Tradepoint enables you to develop very specific security
permissions for every type of role within your company including:
- Executive Management
- Accounting
- Sales/Sales Management
- Account Management
- Service & Support
- Shipping
- Warehousing
- Purchasing
- Supply Side Management
The layout of the Security Settings within
Tradepoint allows you to define right down to the view, edit and print
capabilities of each action within a given profile.
The main screen within Tradepoint is shown
below.

The tool bar at the top of the image shows each
section within Tradepoint that can be adjusted for specific permissions. The
'Tool bar' view that you are looking at here will enable icons on the main
sections in Tradepoint including:
- Home: Main tab
- Tools: Setup and back office tools tab
- Personal: Specific to each profile built in
Tradepoint
- Setup Menu: This is the menu found in the cube
icon in the Upper left of your Tradepoint window.
- Flyout Panel: the small icons found on the right
of your screen.
Each of the sections within Security Settings will
tell you which field, which function and what action can be customized for each
of your profiles. The template will show which icon or function can be enabled
by the label on the left side of the field.
The image below illustrates this.

Here you can see which field to check off to
have that icon be visible on the Home tool bar. To allow an icon or function to
be available to a profile be sure it is checked off. Any boxes that
are not checked off will NOT be visible on a tool bar or will NOT allow a
function for a given section.
Each icon within Security Settings corresponds to a
given section with in Tradepoint. For example, the Customers icon in the Security
Settings will enable you to specify what information and functions are available
within that section. This will also determine what icons appear within the
Customers section for a give profile.
Icons within Menus can also be determined by the
Security Settings. Below is an example of the Setup Menu and which boxes
need to be checked off to have the icons be visible for a user
profile.

Creating a main security profile involves multiple
screens with numerous check boxes so creating one main profile that allows
Administrator access without overriding the Security Settings using the check
box here is necessary to be able to enable additional profiles more efficiently.
In the lower right corner is a tool for
creating profiles that build on ones that already exist. So, if you are looking
to build a service profile that is similar to the sales profile you already have
then use the create a new profile tool based on an existing
template.
1. Highlight the existing profile you want to use
as the basis for a new one.
2. Create the new profile using the New icon
shown below.
3. Make the additional adjustments in the profile within each
section for that profile.
